This past Sunday I opened up the Gazette to catch up on local happenings. On the editorial page there was a letter from Ted Young. An excerpt from his letter:
For all of you progressive liberal Democrats who have moved here, especially over the past 15 years, I have one question for you, why?
I would never move to San Francisco or New York or Detroit. If you like it here, please don’t try to change it to some liberal hellhole….
So for all of you who think this is such a terrible place, don’t let the door hit you on your way out.
This letter has been bothering me since I read it. At first I was discouraged and I questioned why we even bother. Mr. Young’s letter makes it clear that our input is not wanted. So why do we continue to fight for what is right? Why do we work so hard in a community that does not always welcome us?
Then I remembered – we live here, too. Not only do we pay taxes, but we have such faith in our community that many of us are willing to pay more taxes. We value our parks, we value working families and we are tired of being a joke around the country. We want something better and we are willing to work for it and work hard. We believe that Colorado Springs is better than this.
So this is why I do what I do. Why are you a Democrat in El Paso County? Join our newest campaign “Proud to be a Democrat” and get ready to post your thoughts on our website.
Thanks for being on this journey with us. Together we are making a difference whether or not Ted Young wants it.
